My Tok and Tok Wan

This photo was taken sometime in 1980, when Tok and Tok Wan were the same age as Mommy and Daddy now. Gosh! (Now, I think Mommy needs to go and start her own blog! She is encroaching into mine!!) Mommy says, Tok and Tok Wan are very funny people. I think they just received those headgears as presents and decided to take pictures wearing whatever it is to look ridiculous.

Their lives were filled with so much love and laughter. Mommy never remembers Tok and Tok Wan being at loggerheads with each other. If it did (which it did, according to Tok), it happened behind closed doors and the children (all four of them) never got to sniff anything.

Tok Wan was a person who loved life. Tok loves her books. Tok Wan loves the sea, Tok would bring her books along. Tok Wan loves to go out to sea in his motor boat, Tok would bring her books along (but I don't think she actually read them!!). Talking about the boat, Tok Wan had it painted bright chrome yellow and fixed it on the roof of the car for their PD trips. He also had one when he was posted to NZ. It was silver in colour.

His love for the sea almost took his life in 1981. Tok Wan had to visit some refugees on some remote island in I'sia. The rest of the family and office staff were enjoying themselves in some resort in the mountains. In the midst of calmness and serenity of the place, they heard Pak Yahya's car horn. Out came Tok Wan from the car, his face ,pale, his forehead had a small white plaster. His spectacles, different.

Apparently, the boat they were on had capsized. There were more than ten people on it, most of them top officials in the military and ONLY ONE life jacket!! Everybody struggled to keep afloat by holding on to the edge of the overturned boat... in the middle of the South China Sea ..... at midnight ...for a good 6 hours before they were saved by an oil tanker/ship which had to take a 30 minute u-turn before it could reach them. If Mommy was not mistaken, the crew were attracted to the light which Tok Wan flashed from his Alba watch (lights? from a watch? don't think they have that anymore). They were treated , on the ship, for their injuries and then brought to Singapore, where Tok Wan bought a new pair of spectacles and clothes (they were only cladded in their underwear when they were found). Then, they were flown back to Indonesia in a propeller plane, where much to Tok Wan's horror, did not have life jackets under their seat!!! Luckily, he arrived safely...

Tok and Tok Wan also loved entertaining. They used to have superb parties. Not the usual buffet parties that we have nowadays. They used to hold steamboat parties where Tok Wan would set up so many tables with so many steamboat sets, at home. There were also ones where there would be many 'stalls' that served different kind of food. Tok Wan has an ice kacang machine (the traditional ice grinder - yup, the green one that Mamak's use). There would be kambing golek and a lot of food I wouldn't know how to pronounce. Food was almost never catered. If it meant entertaining 100-200 people, then Tok would 'kerah' the other mommies to help out. Things like preparing thousand sticks of satay would be a norm. Tok's friends would remember "fondly" of those golden days. The parties would always end with a singing session ... many patriotic songs would be sung then ... "bonda senyum riang " .. and the likes .... There was also a time where they used to hold weekly dancing lessons at home .... chacha, rhumba, waltz, foxtrot .. and Mommy would be dancing with Pak Ngah or Tok Wan.

Most of the time, Tok and Tok Wan would include Mommy, Pak Ngah, Pak Lang and Achoo in whatever they do .... Mommy doesn't remember experiencing a dull moment in her childhood. Wait until I tell you about Mommy's expedition to climb Mt. Sibayak .. she actually managed to reach the summit at the age of 10 yo, wearing a skirt and blouse, leaving her family who was lagging behind!! Aha .... tunggu ......

Mommy says Tok and Tok Wan had lots of adventures together. She will share all her memories with me because she would like me to remember Tok Wan as she did. Even Achoo did not have many memories of Tok Wan as he passed away when she was 6 years old. Mommy was 14 then .........

My records ...then and now ...

Funny, this blog is supposed to be about my developments .. but not much, huh! I just need to put this down and get it over and down with, before Tok hounds me... My records when I was born :

and the updates to date ....

I can crawl very fast

I can't walk, yet .. but then Mommy and Daddy also started walking at 1yr 2 mths ..so???

I have 4 teeth ... first lower set appeared on 13th March 2005 and the second upper set appeared on the 13th June 2005. I bite my Mommy's nippies when I get annoyed with her or just for the fun of it .. ;)

I got my MMR shot on the 30th June 2005. I am due for my Chicken pox vaccination on the 29th of July ..uhggghhhh .. another one ....

I don't eat much .. just whatever is on the floor .....There was one day, when Mommy was totally freaked out like I've never seen before. My mouth was oozing with a red substance, like blood .... Mommy nearly fainted. She didn't know that I quietly bit on a blood capsule which was left lying on the table. They thot I couldn't get my tiny hands on it!! Ha ha .. But I didn't like what happened next. She took a huge syringe and kept pumping it sideways in my mouth to wash out everything. My little teeth were like dracula's ... all red. She was practically hysterical ... and near tears .. I heard her asking Daddy whether to go to the hospital or not, got chemical or not, poisonous or not. Daddy was just laughing it off much to Mommy's annoyance. Daddy is always the cool one.. That's what I love about him. He said it was edible ..not for babies of, course ... ;P

I can say TOK, DIDI .. Mommy can wait ....... Whatever I say , she comes to me .. so what is the difference whether I call her or not ...

I know when to shout for Mommy to pick me up from the bed and not jump down ...(PHEW!!!)

I love my car rides ...

I love my at least twice a day baths

Oh, yes .. I love stopping at traffic lights .....

I am very good at turning my toys upside down

I hate seeing blocks stacked up .. so, I tear 'em down.

I will try and update more .. off to have my lunch ..

My monitor ...

One of the cleverest things that daddy has bought mommy and me is the monitor. One for mommy and one for me.

Mommy told me that she had wanted to buy the monitor even before I was born. She did ask her friends whether it was absolutely necessary for her to buy one. Anyway, one thing led to another and I arrived. The monitor still remained at the shop.

For almost six months of my life, mommy was constantly running to and fro, from wherever she was to the bedroom to check on me. If she was at the computer, things would not be too bad coz it was a short distance but then I would already be crying my heart out for her to come.

If she was at the kitchen, then ... die. I would have to cry and cry and cry and finally she would be next to me. I was very unhappy and mommy was very unsettled. Then, mommy made a decision .. she wanted it NOW ... which was then.

So, to cut a long story short (read:walking to and fro baby stuff outlets in OU) , Daddy finally decided on the above. That was the best thing that ever happened for mom and me.

The monitor picks up the slightest movement I make (most of the time) and before I know it, I get a nippie shoved in my mouth. Most of the time, I don't realize all this is happening. After a good nap/sleep, I will finally wake up, happy and contented and make gurgling sounds to call mommy to play with me.

Mommy is very careful, though. I don't know whether it (??) has ever happened or not, but she is very careful to make sure that the monitor is switched off properly , especially when she and daddy are in the room. I wonder why????

Wanna ride in my car.....s?

I simply love my car rides. I know mommy keeps many one dollar coins in her purse. She asks everybody to keep them and give them to her because she says they are not easy to come by. She even asks Daddy to go and get them from the bank. Yippee ....... more car rides to come.

Here is another one of me. Both were taken at One Utama. I overheard Mommy telling Daddy that before they had me, Mommy could never understand why some parents were always obliging their children's request and 'tantrums' to go on these machines. She says that she always thot these machines had always been such a rip-off. I don't know what she means.

If I see one and Daddy or Mommy doesn't or purposely doesn't look at it ... I will arch my back and tell them that I have spotted one (read:uuuuhhhhhh). I don't scream but I tell them politely. Daddy is more obliging than Mommy ..... but Tok is better...

Have your cake and eat it!!!!

Ain't my cake pretty? Mommy got this idea from Auntie Joji. Buy your favourite cake and buy some pretty plastic figurines then stick 'em on!! Abang Naim had a cake with 30 Ultramen doing stunts on his cake. After he blew out the candles, everybody grabbed an Ultraman each and ran off. Nobody bothered about the cake except for the adults who had the "brownie" with ice cream. No need to buy expensive birthday cake which nobody eats after that!!

Anyway , pls click here for some of the photographs taken on my birthday. A few of the photos have the copyright thingy on them, most of them don't. She (mommy,of course) was happily copying and pasting the thingy when suddenly everything went beserk (using PS) and sudah tak jadi.

I must tell you about my birthday celebration .. later .... now, daddy is calling mommy to go to sleep ... and I will also be calling her in a while for my midnite snack ...... yum yum ....
